Automated summary
Inspects the current git diff, groups files into logical changes, and writes a Conventional Commits-compliant message before running the commit.
Strengths
- Derives type, scope and description from the actual diff instead of guessing
- Handles breaking changes via the `!` marker and the BREAKING CHANGE footer
- Ships an explicit git safety protocol (no --force, no --no-verify, no config changes)
- Offers targeted staging by file, pattern, or interactive mode
Limitations
- Covers commits only — no push, branch creation, or conflict resolution
- Assumes an initialized repository with pending changes to analyze
- Type and scope conventions are generic and may not match a team's enforced style
Reach for it when you have a pile of edits and want one or more clean, spec-compliant commits without hand-writing the messages.
Avoid it for risky history operations such as interactive rebase, amending, or reverting commits that were already pushed.
Security analysis
CautionThe skill only invokes normal git commands to inspect, stage, and commit changes. It does not exfiltrate data, disable safety, or use obfuscated payloads, but the Bash capability and repository-modifying actions warrant caution rather than an unconditional safe rating.
- •Declares and uses Bash to run git commands (diff, add, commit), which can modify repository state; however, the commands are standard git workflows and include safety guidance against force/destructive actions.
Examples

Git Commit with Conventional Commits
Overview
Create standardized, semantic git commits using the Conventional Commits specification. Analyze the actual diff to determine appropriate type, scope, and message.
Conventional Commit Format
<type>[optional scope]: <description>
[optional body]
[optional footer(s)]
Commit Types
| Type | Purpose |
|------------|--------------------------------|
| feat | New feature |
| fix | Bug fix |
| docs | Documentation only |
| style | Formatting/style (no logic) |
| refactor | Code refactor (no feature/fix) |
| perf | Performance improvement |
| test | Add/update tests |
| build | Build system/dependencies |
| ci | CI/config changes |
| chore | Maintenance/misc |
| revert | Revert commit |
Breaking Changes
# Exclamation mark after type/scope
feat!: remove deprecated endpoint
# BREAKING CHANGE footer
feat: allow config to extend other configs
BREAKING CHANGE: `extends` key behavior changed
Workflow
1. Analyze Diff
# If files are staged, use staged diff
git diff --staged
# If nothing staged, use working tree diff
git diff
# Also check status
git status --porcelain
2. Stage Files (if needed)
If nothing is staged or you want to group changes differently:
# Stage specific files
git add path/to/file1 path/to/file2
# Stage by pattern
git add *.test.*
git add src/components/*
# Interactive staging
git add -p
Never commit secrets (.env, credentials.json, private keys).
3. Generate Commit Message
Analyze the diff to determine:
- Type: What kind of change is this?
- Scope: What area/module is affected?
- Description: One-line summary of what changed (present tense, imperative mood, <72 chars)
4. Execute Commit
# Single line
git commit -m "<type>[scope]: <description>"
# Multi-line with body/footer
git commit -m "$(cat <<'EOF'
<type>[scope]: <description>
<optional body>
<optional footer>
EOF
)"
Best Practices
- One logical change per commit
- Present tense: "add" not "added"
- Imperative mood: "fix bug" not "fixes bug"
- Reference issues:
Closes #123,Refs #456 - Keep description under 72 characters
Git Safety Protocol
- NEVER update git config
- NEVER run destructive commands (--force, hard reset) without explicit request
- NEVER skip hooks (--no-verify) unless user asks
- NEVER force push to main/master
- If commit fails due to hooks, fix and create NEW commit (don't amend)
From the file to a first result
The download contains exactly the content displayed on this page. This copy may differ from the latest version in the source repository.
View the source and supporting filesThis download contains SKILL.md only. Any scripts, references, templates and dependencies are not included. Get the required files from the source, preserving their directory structure, before continuing.
1. Download the file
Download SKILL.mdFrom the root of a test project, save the file as .skill-downloads/conventional-git-commits-ms47vp4g/SKILL.md, or use the command below. This folder is for inspecting the skill before installation.
Command for macOS/Linux or WSL: requires a POSIX shell and curl. On Windows without WSL, use the download button and create the folder manually.
mkdir -p '.skill-downloads/conventional-git-commits-ms47vp4g' && curl --fail --show-error --location 'https://skills-guides.com/api/skills/conventional-git-commits-ms47vp4g/download' --output '.skill-downloads/conventional-git-commits-ms47vp4g/SKILL.md.part' && mv '.skill-downloads/conventional-git-commits-ms47vp4g/SKILL.md.part' '.skill-downloads/conventional-git-commits-ms47vp4g/SKILL.md'2. Check prerequisites
Read SKILL.md before using it. If it references scripts or external services, inspect them and prepare the required access in your test environment.
Tools declared by the author (check availability in your agent): Bash
No recognized prerequisites section in this file. This does not mean it is self-contained: libraries, tools and access requirements may be mentioned elsewhere in the content or source repository.
The platforms on this page are catalog indications. The paths below follow tool documentation; they do not prove this skill has been run in those tools. No minimum tool version is confirmed for this listing.
3. Load the skill
After inspection, copy the complete folder into your project using one of the commands below, then open a new tool session. The command stops if a folder with the same name already exists: compare the files before replacing it.
Claude Code
test -f '.skill-downloads/conventional-git-commits-ms47vp4g/SKILL.md' && test -s '.skill-downloads/conventional-git-commits-ms47vp4g/SKILL.md' && mkdir -p '.claude/skills' && test ! -e '.claude/skills/git-commit' && cp -R '.skill-downloads/conventional-git-commits-ms47vp4g' '.claude/skills/git-commit'OpenSkills
OpenSkills must already be installed. The local install/read procedure is checked with OpenSkills 1.5.0, which requires Node.js ≥ 20.6.0. Catalog slugs are not resolved automatically.
Official OpenSkills installationopenskills install './.skill-downloads/conventional-git-commits-ms47vp4g'openskills read 'conventional-git-commits-ms47vp4g'Reading should display the installed file content and its base directory. It does not run the skill or install its dependencies.
For an agent that reads AGENTS.md, then sync the index. This command changes AGENTS.md: review the diff before using it.
openskills syncManual method or another tool: attach SKILL.md to a conversation, or open it in an agent that can read files. Include any required supporting resources. No universal folder is recognized by every tool.
4. Try a first task
Use a short, synthetic input: an API endpoint, a small document or an interface brief. In a new conversation, attach the file or give the agent its path, then adapt this request:
Read .skill-downloads/conventional-git-commits-ms47vp4g/SKILL.md and apply its instructions to this example: [describe a test input]. Identify any missing files, dependencies or access. Produce the result requested by the skill without inventing data or running unreviewed scripts.Expected result: output matching the skill instructions, or a precise list of missing prerequisites. A read confirmation alone does not validate a first use. If an external resource is unavailable, that path remains untested.
React Hook Form Best Practices
Development
Master React Hook Form: avoid anti-patterns, manage subscriptions, and handle reset, dirty state, and controlled inputs correctly.
Emotion to Mantine Migration
Development
Migrate Emotion styled-components to Mantine components with style props and CSS modules. Use when converting .styled.tsx files or removing @emotion imports.
Scope Creep Detector
Development
Analyzes git diffs against a stated intent to detect scope creep, unrelated files, broad PRs, and oversized changes, then suggests keep, split, or justify actions.
