Automated summary

This skill orchestrates the bundled setup.sh script to build an iDempiere development environment: Eclipse, source checkout, Maven build and database configuration.

Strengths

  • Supports full or partial setup through the --skip-setup-ws and --skip-setup-db flags
  • Documents every database connection parameter (type, host, port, name, user, password) explicitly
  • Includes Docker integration to create a PostgreSQL container or reuse an existing Oracle container
  • Provides ready-made scenarios for a new developer install, workspace update and database reconfiguration

Limitations

  • Entirely dependent on a local setup.sh whose contents and prerequisites (Java, Maven, Git) the skill does not verify
  • On Windows it requires git-bash or switching to a WSL terminal, adding a manual step
  • Database passwords are passed as command-line arguments and therefore leak into shell history
When to use it

Use it when a developer needs to install or reconfigure an iDempiere environment from scratch with Eclipse, sources and a PostgreSQL or Oracle database.

When not to use it

Avoid it when setup.sh is not present in the repository, or when the user only wants to write iDempiere business code without touching the installation.

Security analysis

Caution
Quality score76/100

The skill is essentially documentation for a local dev-environment installer: no obfuscation, no curl|sh piping, no exfiltration of secrets, and no attempt to disable safety controls. However, it does direct an agent to run an unaudited shell script with privileged database credentials, Docker, and network cloning, so it should be treated as a powerful-tool workflow rather than risk-free.

Findings
  • •Instructs executing a local `./setup.sh` whose contents are not included in the skill, so the actual operations (package installs, sudo, file writes) cannot be audited from this document
  • •Database superuser passwords (`--db-admin-pass`) are passed as command-line arguments, exposing them in shell history and process listings
  • •Creates and runs Docker containers (`--docker-postgres-create`) and clones remote git repositories, giving the workflow broad system and network reach
  • •Copies `eclipse.sh` into a user-specified folder and runs setup in the current working directory, which could overwrite or modify existing files there

Examples

Fresh PostgreSQL setup
./setup.sh --docker-postgres-create --db-admin-pass mypassword
Update workspace only
Run ./setup.sh --skip-setup-db on branch release-11 to refresh my iDempiere workspace
Reconfigure database only
./setup.sh --skip-setup-ws --db-type postgresql --db-pass newpassword

iDempiere Setup

This skill automates the setup of an iDempiere development environment using the local setup.sh script.

Core Tasks

Full Environment Setup

To perform a complete setup including Eclipse, source code, and database configuration:

./setup.sh [options]

Workspace Only Setup

To install Eclipse and clone/update source code without database configuration:

./setup.sh --skip-setup-db [options]

Database Only Setup

To configure the database and server environment without setting up the Eclipse workspace:

./setup.sh --skip-setup-ws [options]

Configuration Options

Database Configuration

  • --db-type <postgresql|oracle>: Default is postgresql.
  • --db-host <host>: Default is localhost.
  • --db-port <port>: Default is 5432 for PostgreSQL, 1521 for Oracle.
  • --db-name <name>: Default is idempiere.
  • --db-user <user>: Default is adempiere.
  • --db-pass <pass>: Default is adempiere.
  • --db-admin-pass <pass>: Password for postgres (PostgreSQL) or system (Oracle).

Docker Integration

  • --docker-postgres-create: Create and run a PostgreSQL Docker container.
  • --docker-postgres-name <name>: Set the container name (default: postgres).
  • --oracle-docker-container <name>: Specify an existing Oracle Docker container.
  • --oracle-docker-home <path>: Oracle home inside the container (default: /opt/oracle).

Source Code Configuration

  • --branch <branch_name>: Checkout a specific branch (e.g., release-11).
  • --repository-url <url>: Use a custom git repository.
  • --source <folder>: Set the source folder name (default: idempiere).

HTTP/HTTPS Configuration

  • --http-host <ip>: Listen address (default: 0.0.0.0).
  • --http-port <port>: HTTP port (default: 8080).
  • --https-port <port>: HTTPS port (default: 8443).

Other Options

  • --load-idempiere-env: Load environment variables from idempiereEnv.properties.
  • --eclipse <folder>: Path to the Eclipse IDE folder (default: eclipse).
  • --skip-migration-script: Do not run database migration scripts.
  • --install-copilot: Automatically install the Copilot plugin.

Common Scenarios

  • New Developer Setup (PostgreSQL): ./setup.sh --docker-postgres-create --db-admin-pass mypassword
  • Updating Existing Workspace: ./setup.sh --skip-setup-db
  • Re-configuring Database: ./setup.sh --skip-setup-ws --db-pass newpassword

Instructions

  • Before running any setup scripts, check the operating system. If on Windows, use git-bash.exe to execute the .sh files. If Git Bash is not found, ask the user to switch to a WSL terminal.
  • Perform setup in current folder, not from the skill folder. Please get user confirmation for current working folder before start running of the setup workflow.
  • If on Linux, copy eclipse.sh from the skill folder to the user confirm destination folder. Please only copy eclipse.sh, not other files.

View the source and supporting files

This download contains SKILL.md only. Any scripts, references, templates and dependencies are not included. Get the required files from the source, preserving their directory structure, before continuing.

1. Download the file

Download SKILL.md

From the root of a test project, save the file as .skill-downloads/idempiere-setup-mrwakc54/SKILL.md, or use the command below. This folder is for inspecting the skill before installation.

Command for macOS/Linux or WSL: requires a POSIX shell and curl. On Windows without WSL, use the download button and create the folder manually.

mkdir -p '.skill-downloads/idempiere-setup-mrwakc54' && curl --fail --show-error --location 'https://skills-guides.com/api/skills/idempiere-setup-mrwakc54/download' --output '.skill-downloads/idempiere-setup-mrwakc54/SKILL.md.part' && mv '.skill-downloads/idempiere-setup-mrwakc54/SKILL.md.part' '.skill-downloads/idempiere-setup-mrwakc54/SKILL.md'

2. Check prerequisites

Read SKILL.md before using it. If it references scripts or external services, inspect them and prepare the required access in your test environment.

No recognized prerequisites section in this file. This does not mean it is self-contained: libraries, tools and access requirements may be mentioned elsewhere in the content or source repository.

The platforms on this page are catalog indications. The paths below follow tool documentation; they do not prove this skill has been run in those tools. No minimum tool version is confirmed for this listing.

3. Load the skill

After inspection, copy the complete folder into your project using one of the commands below, then open a new tool session. The command stops if a folder with the same name already exists: compare the files before replacing it.

OpenSkills

OpenSkills must already be installed. The local install/read procedure is checked with OpenSkills 1.5.0, which requires Node.js ≥ 20.6.0. Catalog slugs are not resolved automatically.

Official OpenSkills installation
openskills install './.skill-downloads/idempiere-setup-mrwakc54'

openskills read 'idempiere-setup-mrwakc54'

Reading should display the installed file content and its base directory. It does not run the skill or install its dependencies.

For an agent that reads AGENTS.md, then sync the index. This command changes AGENTS.md: review the diff before using it.

openskills sync

Manual method or another tool: attach SKILL.md to a conversation, or open it in an agent that can read files. Include any required supporting resources. No universal folder is recognized by every tool.

4. Try a first task

Use a short, synthetic input: an API endpoint, a small document or an interface brief. In a new conversation, attach the file or give the agent its path, then adapt this request:

Read .skill-downloads/idempiere-setup-mrwakc54/SKILL.md and apply its instructions to this example: [describe a test input]. Identify any missing files, dependencies or access. Produce the result requested by the skill without inventing data or running unreviewed scripts.

Expected result: output matching the skill instructions, or a precise list of missing prerequisites. A read confirmation alone does not validate a first use. If an external resource is unavailable, that path remains untested.
