Automated summary

Starts a small local Node server that renders directories of plans (each containing a plan.md file) as a kanban dashboard with progress tracking and a timeline view.

Strengths

  • Immediate visual overview: plan cards with progress bars and phase breakdown (completed, in-progress, pending)
  • Gantt-style timeline with duration tracking and an activity heatmap
  • Full CLI options: port, 0.0.0.0 host for network access, background mode, and stopping all servers
  • Also exposes a reusable JSON API (/api/plans)

Limitations

  • Requires an npm install first (gray-matter dependency), otherwise plan details return Error 500
  • Only works on a directory tree where each plan is a folder with a plan.md file
  • It is a local server: no persistence or multi-user collaboration beyond the local network
When to use it

When you want a quick visual overview of the progress of several plans or project phases.

When not to use it

If you need a hosted, team-shared project management tool, or if you cannot install npm dependencies.

Security analysis

Caution
Quality score85/100

The skill is a legitimate local dashboard server and does not contain destructive, exfiltrating, or obfuscated instructions. However, it uses a network-facing Node server, optional all-interface binding, local file serving, and npm dependency installation, so it carries meaningful execution and exposure risk and should be treated as caution rather than safe.

Findings
  • •Supports binding to 0.0.0.0, which exposes the dashboard and plan data to the local network.
  • •Documents a /file/* local file serving route but not its path restrictions, creating potential unintended file exposure if implemented permissively.
  • •Requires npm install of third-party dependencies (gray-matter); no lockfile or integrity verification is shown in the skill instructions.
  • •No allowed-tools are declared, yet the skill instructs running Node servers and shell commands.

Examples

Open the plans dashboard
Start the plans kanban dashboard for ./plans and open it in my browser.
Background server for remote viewing
Run the plans dashboard server in the background on host 0.0.0.0 for the plans/ directory and give me the network URL.
Stop the kanban server
Stop all running plans-kanban servers.

plans-kanban

Plans dashboard server with progress tracking and timeline visualization.

⚠️ Installation Required

This skill requires npm dependencies. Run one of the following:

# Option 1: Install via ClaudeKit CLI (recommended)
ck init # Runs install.sh which handles all skills

# Option 2: Manual installation
cd .claude/skills/plans-kanban
npm install

Dependencies: gray-matter

Without installation, you'll get Error 500 when viewing plan details.

Remote Access

When using --host 0.0.0.0, the server auto-detects your local network IP:

{
  "success": true,
  "url": "http://localhost:3500/kanban?dir=...",
  "networkUrl": "http://192.168.2.75:3500/kanban?dir=...",
  "port": 3500
}

Use networkUrl to access from other devices on the same network.

Plan Structure

The dashboard scans for directories containing plan.md files:

plans/
├── 251215-feature-a/
│   ├── plan.md              # Required - parsed for phases
│   ├── phase-01-setup.md
│   └── phase-02-impl.md
├── 251214-feature-b/
│   └── plan.md
└── templates/               # Excluded by default

Troubleshooting

Port in use: Server auto-increments from 3500-3550

No plans found: Ensure directories contain plan.md files

Remote access denied: Use --host 0.0.0.0 to bind all interfaces

PID files: Located at /tmp/plans-kanban-*.pid

View the source and supporting files

This download contains SKILL.md only. Any scripts, references, templates and dependencies are not included. Get the required files from the source, preserving their directory structure, before continuing.

1. Download the file

Download SKILL.md

From the root of a test project, save the file as .skill-downloads/plans-kanban-mrx3xwkj/SKILL.md, or use the command below. This folder is for inspecting the skill before installation.

Command for macOS/Linux or WSL: requires a POSIX shell and curl. On Windows without WSL, use the download button and create the folder manually.

mkdir -p '.skill-downloads/plans-kanban-mrx3xwkj' && curl --fail --show-error --location 'https://skills-guides.com/api/skills/plans-kanban-mrx3xwkj/download' --output '.skill-downloads/plans-kanban-mrx3xwkj/SKILL.md.part' && mv '.skill-downloads/plans-kanban-mrx3xwkj/SKILL.md.part' '.skill-downloads/plans-kanban-mrx3xwkj/SKILL.md'

2. Check prerequisites

Read SKILL.md before using it. If it references scripts or external services, inspect them and prepare the required access in your test environment.

No recognized prerequisites section in this file. This does not mean it is self-contained: libraries, tools and access requirements may be mentioned elsewhere in the content or source repository.

The platforms on this page are catalog indications. The paths below follow tool documentation; they do not prove this skill has been run in those tools. No minimum tool version is confirmed for this listing.

3. Load the skill

After inspection, copy the complete folder into your project using one of the commands below, then open a new tool session. The command stops if a folder with the same name already exists: compare the files before replacing it.

Claude Code
test -f '.skill-downloads/plans-kanban-mrx3xwkj/SKILL.md' && test -s '.skill-downloads/plans-kanban-mrx3xwkj/SKILL.md' && mkdir -p '.claude/skills' && test ! -e '.claude/skills/plans-kanban' && cp -R '.skill-downloads/plans-kanban-mrx3xwkj' '.claude/skills/plans-kanban'

OpenSkills

OpenSkills must already be installed. The local install/read procedure is checked with OpenSkills 1.5.0, which requires Node.js ≥ 20.6.0. Catalog slugs are not resolved automatically.

Official OpenSkills installation
openskills install './.skill-downloads/plans-kanban-mrx3xwkj'

openskills read 'plans-kanban-mrx3xwkj'

Reading should display the installed file content and its base directory. It does not run the skill or install its dependencies.

For an agent that reads AGENTS.md, then sync the index. This command changes AGENTS.md: review the diff before using it.

openskills sync

Manual method or another tool: attach SKILL.md to a conversation, or open it in an agent that can read files. Include any required supporting resources. No universal folder is recognized by every tool.

4. Try a first task

Use a short, synthetic input: an API endpoint, a small document or an interface brief. In a new conversation, attach the file or give the agent its path, then adapt this request:

Read .skill-downloads/plans-kanban-mrx3xwkj/SKILL.md and apply its instructions to this example: [describe a test input]. Identify any missing files, dependencies or access. Produce the result requested by the skill without inventing data or running unreviewed scripts.

Expected result: output matching the skill instructions, or a precise list of missing prerequisites. A read confirmation alone does not validate a first use. If an external resource is unavailable, that path remains untested.
