Our review
Provides hourly weather forecasts with cloud cover, temperature, wind, and rain probability for outdoor activity planning, automatically selecting the best weather model based on location.
Strengths
- Auto-selects the most accurate model (ICON-D2 for Alps/Europe);
- Visual cloud cover bars with percentage display;
- Detects best weather windows (low clouds and rain);
- Includes sunrise/sunset times for daylight planning.
Limitations
- Forecast limited to 2 days when using ICON-D2 model;
- Does not provide specialized data (snow, avalanche, water temperature);
- Requires internet connection to fetch data.
Best for planning outdoor activities like running, cycling, or hiking by finding hourly windows with favorable cloud, wind, and rain conditions.
Avoid for specialized forecasts (marine, avalanche, or long-range predictions beyond 2 days) or when offline.
Security analysis
SafeThe skill uses Bash to run a local script that fetches weather data via curl from a reputable free API (Open-Meteo) and parses it with jq. No destructive or exfiltrating commands are present. The script is not included, but the description shows only harmless functionality.

For Alps/Europe locations, ICON-D2 provides superior accuracy. The skill auto-detects location and switches appropriately.
Activity Considerations
Different activities have different weather needs:
- Running/Hiking: Cloud cover + temperature
- Cycling: Wind is critical (>25km/h = challenging)
- Climbing: Needs dry conditions, check precipitation history
- Skiing: Check specialized sources for snow/avalanche
- Open water: Consider water temp (not in this API)
This skill focuses on general outdoor windows. For specialized forecasts:
- Alpine: bergfex.at
- Avalanche: avalanche.report
- Marine: windy.com marine layer
Data Source
- API: Open-Meteo (free, no key required)
- Units: Metric (Celsius, km/h, mm)
- Update frequency: Every 3 hours (ICON-D2)
- Timezone: Auto-detected based on location
