Automated summary

Searches books on WeRead (微信读书) through its public web endpoints and renders the results as a markdown table with title, author, rating, daily readers, availability, price and link.

Strengths

  • A single curl call returns title, author, rating, daily readers, price and availability status
  • Also handles single-book detail lookups (bookId: prefix) and chapter lists
  • Surfaces content snippets and the matching chapter when the keyword appears inside a book's text
  • Documents the JSON response shape in detail (units, rating divided by 10, bookStatus/soldout codes) so formatting stays reliable

Limitations

  • Relies on web endpoints that are not officially documented and may change or fail without warning
  • No authentication, so subscriber-only or restricted content is out of reach
  • Does not read or download book content, and beyond totalCount/hasMore no pagination handling is described
When to use it

Use it when the user wants to check whether a book is available on 微信读书, find a title by author or keyword, or compare several hits before picking something to read.

When not to use it

Don't use it to read, buy or download a book's text, or to search any catalog other than WeRead.

Security analysis

Caution
Quality score82/100

The skill is a straightforward read-only wrapper around WeRead's public web API: it URL-encodes a user-supplied keyword and issues GET requests to search/info/chapter endpoints with a normal browser User-Agent and Referer. There is no secret handling, no piping of remote content to a shell, no file deletion, and no obfuscation. The only risks are the inherent power of bash/network access and possible ToS friction from scraping, which warrants a caution rating rather than safe.

Findings
  • •Instructs use of the Bash tool with curl to hit external endpoints (weread.qq.com) though no allowed-tools are declared
  • •Scrapes undocumented/public web API endpoints which may violate WeRead's terms of service or break without notice
  • •No credential handling, no destructive commands, no data exfiltration; all requests are read-only GETs

Examples

Search by title
/weread 烟霞洞
Book detail by ID
/weread bookId:31131759
Multiple keyword searches
/weread 三体 刘慈欣|球状闪电 刘慈欣

name: weread description: | Use this skill when the user wants to search books on WeRead (微信读书), look up book details, check book availability, or find books by title/author/keyword on weread.qq.com. Also trigger when the user mentions "微信读书", "weread", or wants to check if a book is available on WeRead.

WeRead 微信读书搜索

Search books on WeRead (微信读书) using the public API.

Instructions

When the user invokes /weread <query>, search WeRead and present the results.

Step 1: Parse the query

The argument after /weread is the search keyword. Examples:

  • /weread 烟霞洞 → search for "烟霞洞"
  • /weread 三体 刘慈欣 → search for "三体 刘慈欣"
  • /weread bookId:31131759 → fetch details for a specific book

Step 2: Call the API

Use the Bash tool to call the WeRead search API:

curl -s 'https://weread.qq.com/web/search/global?keyword=ENCODED_KEYWORD' \
  -H 'User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/120.0.0.0 Safari/537.36' \
  -H 'Accept: application/json' \
  -H 'Referer: https://weread.qq.com/'

Replace ENCODED_KEYWORD with the URL-encoded search keyword. Use python3 -c "import urllib.parse; print(urllib.parse.quote('关键词'))" to encode if needed.

Step 3: Parse and display results

Parse the JSON response with a Python one-liner or jq. The response structure:

{
  "books": [
    {
      "bookInfo": {
        "bookId": "...",
        "title": "...",
        "author": "...",
        "cover": "https://cdn.weread.qq.com/...",
        "intro": "...",
        "publisher": "...",
        "price": 0,          // in cents (分)
        "bookStatus": 1,     // 1=available, 5=pending
        "soldout": 0,        // 0=available, 1=removed
        "payType": 4097,
        "format": "epub",
        "newRating": 797,    // divide by 10 for percentage (79.7%)
        "newRatingCount": 3930
      },
      "bookContentInfo": { // present when keyword found in book content
        "chapterTitle": "...",
        "abstract": "...", // text snippet with keyword context
        "keyword": ["烟霞洞"]
      },
      "readingCount": 15043,        // daily readers
      "subscribeCount": 1
    }
  ],
  "totalCount": 847,
  "hasMore": true
}

Step 4: Format the output

Present results as a markdown table with these columns:

| # | Title | Author | Rating | Daily Readers | Status | Price | Link | |---|-------|--------|--------|---------------|--------|-------|------|

Rules for formatting:

  • Rating: newRating / 10% (e.g., 797 → 79.7%). Show "—" if not available.
  • Daily Readers: readingCount. Show "—" if 0.
  • Status:
    • bookStatus=1 + soldout=0 → "可读"
    • bookStatus=5 or soldout=1 → "待上架"
  • Price: price / 100 元. If 0, show "免费".
  • Link: https://weread.qq.com/web/bookDetail/{bookId}
  • If bookContentInfo exists, show the matching chapter and text snippet below the table for that book.

Additional capabilities

Book detail lookup

If the query starts with bookId:, fetch book details:

curl -s 'https://weread.qq.com/web/book/info?bookId=BOOK_ID' \
  -H 'User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/537.36' \
  -H 'Referer: https://weread.qq.com/'

Book chapter list

curl -s 'https://weread.qq.com/web/book/chapter/e_0?bookId=BOOK_ID' \
  -H 'User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/537.36' \
  -H 'Referer: https://weread.qq.com/'

Multiple searches

If the user provides multiple keywords separated by |, run each as a separate search and combine results.

API Reference

| Endpoint | Method | Params | Description | |----------|--------|--------|-------------| | /web/search/global | GET | keyword | Search books by keyword | | /web/book/info | GET | bookId | Get book details | | /web/book/chapter/e_0 | GET | bookId | Get chapter list | | /web/book/publicinfos | GET | bookIds (comma-sep) | Batch book info |

All endpoints:

  • Base URL: https://weread.qq.com
  • No auth required for search
  • Set Referer: https://weread.qq.com/ header
  • Rate limit: add 1-2s delay between batch requests

From the file to a first result

The download contains exactly the content displayed on this page. This copy may differ from the latest version in the source repository.

View the source and supporting files

This download contains SKILL.md only. Any scripts, references, templates and dependencies are not included. Get the required files from the source, preserving their directory structure, before continuing.

1. Download the file

Download SKILL.md

From the root of a test project, save the file as .skill-downloads/weread-book-search-ms1aw4ur/SKILL.md, or use the command below. This folder is for inspecting the skill before installation.

Command for macOS/Linux or WSL: requires a POSIX shell and curl. On Windows without WSL, use the download button and create the folder manually.

mkdir -p '.skill-downloads/weread-book-search-ms1aw4ur' && curl --fail --show-error --location 'https://skills-guides.com/api/skills/weread-book-search-ms1aw4ur/download' --output '.skill-downloads/weread-book-search-ms1aw4ur/SKILL.md.part' && mv '.skill-downloads/weread-book-search-ms1aw4ur/SKILL.md.part' '.skill-downloads/weread-book-search-ms1aw4ur/SKILL.md'

2. Check prerequisites

Read SKILL.md before using it. If it references scripts or external services, inspect them and prepare the required access in your test environment.

No recognized prerequisites section in this file. This does not mean it is self-contained: libraries, tools and access requirements may be mentioned elsewhere in the content or source repository.

The platforms on this page are catalog indications. The paths below follow tool documentation; they do not prove this skill has been run in those tools. No minimum tool version is confirmed for this listing.

3. Load the skill

After inspection, copy the complete folder into your project using one of the commands below, then open a new tool session. The command stops if a folder with the same name already exists: compare the files before replacing it.

Claude Code
test -f '.skill-downloads/weread-book-search-ms1aw4ur/SKILL.md' && test -s '.skill-downloads/weread-book-search-ms1aw4ur/SKILL.md' && mkdir -p '.claude/skills' && test ! -e '.claude/skills/weread' && cp -R '.skill-downloads/weread-book-search-ms1aw4ur' '.claude/skills/weread'

OpenSkills

OpenSkills must already be installed. The local install/read procedure is checked with OpenSkills 1.5.0, which requires Node.js ≥ 20.6.0. Catalog slugs are not resolved automatically.

Official OpenSkills installation
openskills install './.skill-downloads/weread-book-search-ms1aw4ur'

openskills read 'weread-book-search-ms1aw4ur'

Reading should display the installed file content and its base directory. It does not run the skill or install its dependencies.

For an agent that reads AGENTS.md, then sync the index. This command changes AGENTS.md: review the diff before using it.

openskills sync

Manual method or another tool: attach SKILL.md to a conversation, or open it in an agent that can read files. Include any required supporting resources. No universal folder is recognized by every tool.

4. Try a first task

Use a short, synthetic input: an API endpoint, a small document or an interface brief. In a new conversation, attach the file or give the agent its path, then adapt this request:

Read .skill-downloads/weread-book-search-ms1aw4ur/SKILL.md and apply its instructions to this example: [describe a test input]. Identify any missing files, dependencies or access. Produce the result requested by the skill without inventing data or running unreviewed scripts.

Expected result: output matching the skill instructions, or a precise list of missing prerequisites. A read confirmation alone does not validate a first use. If an external resource is unavailable, that path remains untested.
